It’s rare to meet someone who hasn’t heard the word vintage. Lately, terms like “vintage style,” “vintage interior,” or “vintage furniture” are everywhere. But where does this fascination come from, and what exactly does vintage mean? While most people know the modern meaning, the word itself comes from French and originally refers to the aging of wine. Today, vintage is about age, past eras, and reviving old fashion directions.

Have you noticed how more and more stars are wearing pieces from archive collections in recent years? From everyday outfits to major events, vintage is everywhere. But why has this trend grown so popular, and what’s behind the process of choosing archive pieces? The answer is simple: fashion is not just a marketing tool for big brands. Even if a brand is a marketing genius, it doesn’t guarantee that their new collection will appear on the red carpet or in the everyday style of our favorite stars. Fashion is about individuality, connecting with past stories and eras. And yes – fashion does “come back around,” which is clear in the rising popularity of vintage style.

Although archive collections are more popular than ever, certain names stand out when talking about vintage. And if we mention vintage, who comes to mind first if not Bella Hadid? Bella’s love for vintage is especially noticeable – not only in haute couture collections but also in her everyday style. Another big fan is Hailey Bieber, often called a “trendsetter,” whose influence has also contributed to the growing popularity of archive pieces. Old collections are also seen on stars like Kendall Jenner, Zendaya, Lily-Rose Depp, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lawrence, and more.

Here’s a list of standout stars and looks that clearly show fashion’s strong connection to the past:

Bella Hadid in Prada – Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

Bella Hadid again on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in a Versace archive dress – Spring 2001 collection.

Lily-Rose Depp in Vivienne Westwood archive pieces from the Fall 1994 collection.

Hailey Bieber at the post-Oscar party in a Saint Laurent black dress – Spring 1987 collection.

Ariana Grande at her latest film premiere in a Givenchy Couture 1998 dress, designed by Alexander McQueen.

Zendaya in a John Galliano archive dress – Spring 1998 collection.

Jennifer Lawrence in a Givenchy dress from the Fall 1996 collection.

Ivanka Trump at the Presidential Inauguration – a beautiful dress inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy’s iconic 1953 black-and-white collection.

Miley Cyrus at the 2024 Grammys in a Bob Mackie dress from the 2002 collection.

Sydney Sweeney in a Marc Bouwer archive dress from 2004, a gown also worn by Angelina Jolie at the 2004 Oscars.

Zendaya in London at the Dune 2 premiere in a Mugler 1995 archive outfit.

Toronto International Film Festival red carpet – Herve Leger archive dress originally worn by Sydney Crawford at the 1993 Oscars.

This revival of vintage demonstrates how fashion connects the past with the present, giving old designs new life and proving that style truly is timeless.
