Sometimes, one photo is enough to tell a full story. You just need to capture the right moment. But we all know- it’s not always easy. Catching the perfect second takes talent. Our respondent, Lika Sakhokia, has that talent. She is a 28-year-old photographer who found her inspiration in Milan, Italy. For the past three years, she’s been sharing beautiful photos from her life there.

In this interview with N13, Lika talks about her work, her personal style, and how she sees the world.

1. How would you describe your photography style? What is most important to you when taking photos?

When I take a photo, I first look at the background. It should not be too busy. I want the photo to be not only pretty but also emotional. I like taking pictures without much planning. I believe most of my photos are real, and I enjoy this natural way of working.

2. Why did you choose Italy, and especially Milan, for your career?

For me, Italy is full of beauty, art, and romance. Everything here feels special- the old bars, narrow streets, and even the older people you see on the street. Milan has a perfect mix of history, calm feelings, and daily life. I feel happy here.

3. Can you name 3 places in Milan that you love most?

First is Brera. I walk there a lot and it always feels new. It reminds me of the old Italy I dream of. Then, there’s Giacomo Caffè. I found it by accident, and I love to sit there and take photos from different angles. Last is Villa Necchi Campiglio, a 1930s art deco house. It’s so elegant and peaceful.

4. Where do you find your inspiration?

I find it in everyday things. My mornings start at a café where people and places are interesting. Even if I stay for just a few minutes, it gives me energy. I also love Italian buildings, small street objects, and of course, people.

5. Did Milan change your view on photography?

Yes. Milan gave me more confidence. Every day here is a new experience. I learned that beauty can be in small, simple things that we don’t always see.

6. How do you choose where to take pictures? What makes a place special for you?

I love vintage style, so I choose places that look old or tell a story. It could be an old dress, a small bar, or a restaurant. These things show a connection to the past, and I want to share that feeling with others.

7. Do you remember a special moment you captured on camera?

Once, I saw an old couple at a bus stop. The woman said goodbye to her husband and said, “See you at home, my love.” It was very sweet and emotional. I recorded it, and moments like this inspire me to keep sharing real life through my photos.

8. Milan is a fashion capital. Did the city change your personal style?

Yes. Living here made me pay more attention to details, quality, and clothes that match my personality. My style is simple and elegant. I usually wear black, white, and brown. I think true style comes from feeling comfortable in what you wear.

9. Your photos show your love for vintage. Is that also true for your clothing?

Yes. I often wear vintage clothes and accessories like scarves and sunglasses. I find them in small shops where sellers tell the story behind each item. I enjoy that a lot.

10. If you had to describe Milan’s style in one word, what would it be?

I would say “authentic.” Milan follows trends but keeps its own strong character. Many times, Milan is not just following fashion- it is creating it.

11. Is there one thing you always need for your personal style?

Yes, I need simplicity. I don’t like too many details. I prefer calm, neutral colors. And most of all- I need to feel comfortable in what I wear.

12. Do you think your clothes show your mood?

Yes, I do. If I want to stay quiet, I wear dark clothes. If I feel happy, I wear something brighter or more interesting. My everyday style really shows how I feel.

13. Which fashion designers or brands match your personal style?

I think my style is close to Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, and Loro Piana. I like their soft colors, clean looks, and elegance.

14. Last question- what is one style secret Milan has taught you?

Style should feel natural. Milan taught me that when you are confident and real, that’s what makes your style special.
